QUESTION FROM Jean
I just replaced the telephone receiver cord on my land phone. I can call out on it now(without all the crackling!) but I cannot receive incoming calls. What have I done?
ANSWER FROM POLICY-Wizard™
Dear Jean:
Is the cord that you replaced the one that goes from the telephone base to the handset? Or the one that goes from the wall to the telephone base? And when you say that you cannot receive incoming calls, what happens when your number is dialed? Does it ring in the caller's phone but not on your land phone?
A couple of thoughts: 1) Unplug the connections to the cord that you replaced, and clean the contacts on both the cord and phone sides. 2) If cleaning the contacts doesn't work, then you can have the phone company for your land line phone call you number, and see of they can diagnose anything from their end. 3) Do you have another land line phone around that you can swap out the cord with, to see if you have a bad cord?
If none of these fix your problem, then just send us the answers to the questions at the beginning of this message, and we can try to come up some other ideas.
Hope this is helpful.
